At Pathways to Independence, our volunteers
help us to achieve our mission; “To facilitate a way
of life that enables individuals with challenges
to realize their potential and achieve selfempowerment.”

We don’t fit the people we support into programs,
we help them to identify their own goals, wishes
and dreams and then do everything we can to
help them achieve. Often, our volunteers are a
big part of supporting these goals. Our volunteers
contribute their knowledge, skills and time to
enable the people we support to;
- • Attend special events such as a hockey game,
church or holiday party
- • Teach a new skill such as sewing, knitting,
computers, or baking
- • Exercise and learn how to keep themselves
healthy by walking,
bicycling or swimming, or
- • Develop a new interest they have learned from
being with a volunteer.
Our volunteers bring their own choices and ideas
for how they would like to help and we closely
match these interests with the hopes, wishes and
goals of the people we support.
We have opportunities for volunteers who wish
to work directly with the people we support in
many communities across south eastern Ontario
or in either of our professional office locations in
Belleville or Ottawa.
Come and inspire someone. Give of yourself
and you’ll understand why Pathways to
Independence volunteers say that, “Volunteering
at Pathways is a very positive and rewarding
experience.” (Pathways to Independence
volunteer satisfaction survey, 2006.)
